Dådran
A place where time has gently paused. Discover the history of an ironworks village beside Lake Ljugaren.
Dådran is a small village in Rättvik Municipality, located by the Dådran inlet of Lake Ljugaren. The village was founded in the early 19th century as an ironworks, where water power and surrounding forests for charcoal production made it an ideal location for industrial activity.
Construction of the ironworks began in 1804, although official privileges were not granted until 1806. The first facilities were completed in 1807, and that same year the first permanent residents were recorded. By 1832, the population had grown to 50 people, and later that year it exceeded 100 residents.
Today, Dådran is a vibrant village with a strong sense of community and a rich history. Visitors can experience the well-preserved skittle alley — a 150-year-old bowling lane that is one of the best preserved in Sweden — as well as the old ironworks with its water wheel still standing by the stream.
For nature lovers, Dådran offers year-round activities:
- Summer: Swimming, canoeing, fishing, cycling, or hiking in the surrounding forests.
- Autumn: Picking lingonberries, blueberries, wild strawberries, and raspberries in the nearby woods.
- Winter: Experience winter with cross-country skiing, ice skating, or a moment of ice fishing on the frozen lakes. Trails can be found in nearby villages.
- Spring: Enjoy the awakening of nature with blooming meadows and birdsong.
Dådran is a place where history and nature meet, offering visitors the peace and beauty of the Swedish landscape.
